Tea is Egypt’s national drink and is typically served during breakfast. Presently, tea is a part of folk etiquette and daily life. 1. Koshary tea
This is a popular light drink in Northern Egypt. It is made by steeping black tea in boiling water. The tea is then set aside for a few minutes. The tea is then sweetened with cane sugar and flavored with fresh mint leaves. You can also mix in a little milk to give the tea a fuller body.
2. Saiidi tea
Saiidi tea is a star drink in the southern part of Egypt. Around two or more tablespoons of black tea per cup is added to boiling water over a strong flame for around five minutes. The resulting drink is an extremely heavy and bitter tea. You can can lighten it up with a bit of milk.
3. Green tea
Light and pleasant, green tea is a new arrival in Egypt. Green tea is formulated from ground, snipped, or whole leaves of the camellia sinensis. The tea is full of flavonoids, antibodies, and polyphenols that strengthens your body to fight pathological diseases.
4. Karkadeh
Karkadeh, which is made of dried hibiscus petals, is a herbal tea, not a true tea. Typically, it is served very sweet and cold. But it can also be served piping hot. Legends and myths indicate that the Karkadeh was once the royal drink of pharaohs of the old. And as a custom, wedding celebrations are blessed with a toast of hibiscus tea.
5. Licorice tea
Served during the Islamic month of Ramadan, licorice tea is a sweet beverage made of dried apricot and water. It is quite pleasant during hot weather.
